Referral Information for Dentists
For patients who remain internally unsettled, tense, or dysregulated despite appropriate dental care
Overview
Some patients continue to experience internal tension, sleep disruption, or a persistent sense of being on edge despite appropriate dental evaluation and ongoing care. Although dental findings may be stable or adequately managed, the patient’s internal state does not fully settle.
This page provides referral information for a structured, time-limited hypnotherapy process designed to support nervous system stabilization and internal steadiness in such patients.
This is a non-pharmacologic, adjunctive option and is not a replacement for dental, medical, psychological, or psychiatric care.
When Referral May Be Appropriate
Referral may be appropriate for patients who are:
-
Receiving appropriate dental evaluation or ongoing care
-
Experiencing persistent tension or difficulty settling
-
Reporting sleep that remains unsettled or unrefreshing
-
Describing a constant sense of being “on edge”
-
Showing signs of stress that exceed dental findings
-
Functioning in daily life but feeling internally strained
Patients are often referred when stress, tension, or sleep remain unsettled, and a persistent sense of being on edge continues, even while dental care is ongoing or after dental concerns have been addressed.
This process is intended for patients who are functioning but unsettled, rather than acutely ill or in crisis.
What This Process Is
- A six-session, structured hypnotherapy process
- Focused on stabilization of the nervous system
- Designed to restore internal steadiness and clarity
- Time-limited, with a defined beginning and end
- Conducted privately, one-to-one, in person or online
The emphasis is on helping the internal state settle first, allowing the body and mind to regulate more effectively without forcing insight or prolonged emotional processing.
What This Process Is Not
- Emergency mental health care
- Open-ended psychotherapy
- Dental treatment
- Ongoing talk therapy
- A substitute for medical, dental, or psychiatric treatment
Patients requiring acute intervention, safety monitoring, or intensive psychiatric care should be referred elsewhere.
Clinical Rationale (Plain Language)
In some individuals, prolonged stress or autonomic dysregulation interferes with sleep, relaxation, and the ability to settle, even when dental care is appropriate and ongoing.
This structured hypnotherapy process is designed to reduce internal noise, support autonomic regulation, and allow the nervous system to return toward a steadier baseline, without additional pharmacologic escalation.

Optional: Process Orientation for Referring Dentists
Dentists who would like to better understand how this structured process works may request a one-time orientation session.
This session is offered solely to demonstrate the structure of the process and assess referral fit. It is not personal therapy, and it is not ongoing.
